Mockboard #2

WHEW! Today we had our second mockboards. I am so happy to have found such a great patient who is so willing to help me out during mockboards and boards. She really is the best possible board patient. I finished my patient today and felt really good about what I had accomplished. I had no idea that I would have scored in the 90's though! Coming from our last mockboards in October (which I really bombed) to now doing well enough to get such an awesome score?! I am feeling really good about the progress I have made in the last three months. Next mockboards I just really need to remember to get all the paper work filled out correctly. What started off as a really horrible month end up pretty awesome. I just hope that I do this well on the actual board exam. :)

Best patients ever!

This week in WSU clinic my mockboard patient (who may also be my board patient) came in for x-rays. Her husband also came in for a tissue evaluation. This family is so amazing! They are very reliable and thoughtful. The husband works for a contractor and offered to re-do my bathroom for free as a graduation gift! I almost cried because they are so nice! Why can't all patients be this considerate? They also referred a friend to me! In fact, this week at the VA and at WSU went really great. All of my patients were super friendly and appreciative of the care I provided. One of my VA patients was a class IV and really a challenging case. However, in the quad that I scaled I only missed one small area of deposit. I am feeling really good about the progress I have made this week.

No Luck

Thursday was yet another clinic day that seemed useless. In the morning I saw an 11yr old kid with pretty severe gingivitis, then I saw an adorable 5yr old. In the afternoon my originally scheduled patient cancelled on me (yep it happened again). So instead I had another teenager. Where are all of the class III and IV patients?! I feel that I have had the worst luck in finding harder classifications this semester. It also feels like this semester is going by really fast, and we are only 2 weeks into it.

BOARDS!!

So it is official. I am registered for boards. I payed the $1600 to take the stupid tests and now all that is left is studying my butt off to pass them all. I take my first board exam on Feb. 9th. That's right, one month.... shoot I better get back to studying! :)

A Frustrating First Week!

The first week back to school for my last semester almost ended in tears! On Tuesday I  was scheduled at the VA where I didn't have an 8am patient only a 9:30am patient due to a cancellation. Then my afternoon patient never showed up so my advisor had to locate a patient that was willing to be seen after their appointment with one of the dentists. Then on Thursday at the WSU clinic my first patient no showed and I tried so hard to find a patient who would be willing to come in on short noticed. I had no luck, and no patient. Then that afternoon my second patient also no showed. This is about the time that I nearly cried. Again I frantically began calling people off our resource list. Finally just when I thought all hope was lost, I found a patient. Not just any patient, but the most kindest, sweetest patient ever! This patient was super nice and made my day seem not so bad anymore. When you see patients that are like this, it makes you realize that not all patients are horrible and mean and don't show up for their scheduled appointment!
